university mall in pensacola, florida

the mall consists of three large traditional department stores, a jcpenny, a belks and a sears, connected together by a regular sized mall. except for these department stores and a single shop selling swimwear, it is completely vacant. the food court has benches and tables set out and a scruffy looking man was sitting at one. the old food kiosks are cleared out and a few still have grills and ovens, though none are serving anything. the flashiest thing in there is a neon sign above the washrooms. the mall itself has missing wall and ceiling panels that expose insulation and ducts. a former fountain sits dry in a recess near the centre of the building. probably only a year or two back someone posted photos on one section of wall from important mall events, ranging back to the opening. there is even a timeline of mall history posted there, where renovations completed and hurricanes survived are recorded next to the growing number of stores. the timeline itself is undated. outside, the absolutely massive parking lot is almost entirely deserted. even commercial space surrounding the parking lot is vacant.
